What is an Identified Person?
An identified person is someone who has had a previously applied cookie in their browser so we can associate the current web visit with an email address in your account.
Web browsers, like Chrome, enable users to use an incognito or private browser, delete cookies, allow or block all cookies and set preferences for certain websites. If the person completes any of these actions, it may prevent data points being sent to Drip.
Identify People on Your List
Applying a cookie to a visitor whose email address you already have in your account does not necessarily identify them automatically. There are specific actions a person must take before Drip can make the identification.
Drip automatically identifies people in the following ways:
Submits a Drip form widget
- Submits a third-party form
- A person who reaches the Shopify Order Status page
Submit a form widget
Submit a third-party form
Submit an embedded form
Click a link in a Drip email
Shopify Orders Page
When you have integrated Drip with your Shopify store and your customer reaches the Shopify Order Status page, they become identified.
If you are using a Shopify Plus customized checkout flow or select to not show your customers the order confirmation page, they will not be identified.
People created through our REST API do not immediately get identified and you should use one of the above methods to do so.
Web Visitor Properties
Identified people hold a few additional properties that unidentified people do not. In an individual person’s profile, you’ll see IP address, User agent, and Time zone which are collected once a person becomes identified.
Identified People and Automation
A person who has not been identified through one of the methods mentioned above can not trigger a browse or cart abandonment Workflow. Without identification, Drip cannot track their behavior, and will not trigger an automation based on their behavior.
A Drip cookie expires after one year; however, we reapply the cookie when they engage with your brand.
