Both Updated a cart, and Checkout Created/Updated events notify Drip when products are in your customer’s cart; however, the specific actions that trigger each event differ slightly:
- Checkout updated/created: As people add products to their cart, it is not until they reach the checkout page that Shopify gathers that information and sends the event to Drip
-
Updated a cart: This event occurs once a product is added to the cart from any page on your site.
- This removes the need to rely on people visiting the checkout page before cart information is provided.
- Keep in mind, people will need to be identified for this trigger to fire.
- Cart Abandonment product blocks will check the latest Updated a Cart event in a person’s timeline to provide the most up-to-date cart information.
- This removes the need to rely on people visiting the checkout page before cart information is provided.
Please note: If products are added to the cart after an upcoming email has been queued up to send, they will not be included in the email.
Before You Get Started
To maximize your reach, this workflow includes Cart and Checkout events as triggers. Including all triggers ensures capturing an abandoned cart, whether the customer is identified on a product page or by the time they provide their email at checkout. However, you can create separate workflows to track and target these two events individually.
Update Existing Shopify Permissions
- Navigate to Settings > Integrations > Shopify.
