SMS is currently unavailable to new users.
All Drip users deploying SMS messages need to be registered and A2P 10DLC approved by Aug 31st, 2023 in order to continue SMS sending. The U.S. mobile carriers are enforcing new stricter guidelines around SMS marketing from companies to greatly reduce spam received by phone users within the U.S.
Why is this happening?
U.S. A2P 10DLC registration is now required by all major U.S. telecommunications carriers. Any SMS messages not associated with a registered A2P campaign will be 100% undeliverable to people residing in the U.S. after August 31, 2023.
What does this mean for my Drip account?
If you have SMS service with Drip and you are not yet A2P approved, Drip needs to register you by June 30th if you wish to continue using Drip for your SMS sending. We will handle all of the A2P registration paperwork for you. We just need some legal information about your company which can be submitted via this form.
If you previously registered for A2P 10DLC with us, you are all set.
Wait…the hard stop is Aug 31st. Why do you need my information by the end of June?
In the past, the A2P registration process used to complete within 3 business days. Today, there has been a substantial increase in the number of registrations. This has created an industry bottleneck with The Campaign Registry, causing A2P related approval delays of 4-8 weeks.
What specific information do I need to provide Drip via form?
Drip needs your company’s legal US business information as it appeared on its 2022 federal tax filing:
- Legal Company Name
- Legal Company Address
- Legal Company Type:
- LLC, Sole Proprietorship, S-Corp, Partnership, Co-operative, Non-Profit Corporation, or Corporation
- Your US Employer Identification Number (EIN)
- It’s usually formatted like this: XX-XXXXXXX
- It’s usually formatted like this: XX-XXXXXXX
What happens if I don't fill out the A2P registration form in-time?
Any SMS sending Drip account that, by June 30th, 2023:
A) Does not provide us the A2P needed business information, or
B) Does provide it, is not approved, and updated business information is then not supplied
Will have its SMS sending service permanently suspended at the end of their August billing cycle
Can you go into more details about A2P 10DLC?
Sure! Here’s some background info:
A2P 10DLC stands for “Application-to-Peer Ten-Digit Long Codes”. A Ten-Digit Long Code (10DLC) is simply the term for a phone number and area code (e.g. 612-123-4567), not including toll-free numbers.
Sending a text from one mobile handset to another is considered P2P (Peer-to-Peer), whereas sending a text via software like Aloware is considered A2P.
In 2021, all major US carriers — T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon came together to develop a set of guidelines and create 10 digit long codes sanctioned specifically for businesses that rely on bulk text messaging to communicate with their audiences. Businesses with a local long code can register their legal business information with The Campaign Registry, be vetted as a legitimate business, get approved, and then enjoy significantly higher send speeds v. a toll-free number. Plus less risk of being marked as spam.
The goals of A2P 10DLC are to:
- Provide businesses with a reliable, stable and more secure solution by which they can easily reach their customers.
- Protect consumers from unsolicited messages. The unsanctioned long codes of the past lacked these desirable security standards and as a result, were constantly vulnerable to blocking and throttling.
- Establish industry standards & trust involving SMS sending between companies and their customers.
