The email pre-header is an optional feature that you'll find in every email you create in your Drip account. The feature allows you to enter in a snippet of text you'd like to display to the right of an email's subject line.
Take this campaign email for example:
Note how we've included content for the subject line, pre-header, and email content body.
Here's what you subscribers will see when that email arrives is delivered to their inboxes:
In the Gmail example above, you can see that the pre-header immediately follows the subject line when viewed inside of the inbox preview.
Here's how the same email looks in a Yahoo inbox:
You can further enhance your pre-header text with Liquid to include personalization.

Why should I include a pre-header with my emails?
Including an email pre-header along with a subject line allows you to further describe to the reader the content to come. You can think of the email's subject line as the heading and the pre-header as the sub-heading. Plus, it gives you more of an opportunity to catch the eyes of your readers while they're skimming their inbox.
Can I change how the pre-header looks in the inbox preview?
It's important to understand that different email providers have different ways of dealing with pre-header text. Unfortunately, there is nothing on Drip's end that can be done to change the design or placement of an email's pre-header text while displayed in a subscriber's inbox.
